I was hoping this would be a good way to slow down the balls while I learn new patterns. Unfortunately the strings get tangled more quickly than I expected, and take longer to untangle. Maybe that wouldn’t be a problem if I could do a pattern perfectly, then do it perfectly in reverse, but that sort of defeats the purpose as a learning tool.
Also, since a pendulum’s period doesn’t change much with its amplitude, you can’t really get more time between throws by throwing higher, unlike with regular vertical juggling. And also it’s hard to keep the hands wide because the balls want to return to the center.
I did eventually manage to do 5 balls for 20 throws, which is better than I can do in regular juggling, but I don’t think it was worth all the time I spent untangling.
A higher ceiling would help. Even better would be to get a large, flat surface that I could tilt down to a low angle, and strap myself to a harness above it, facing down, so I could roll the balls up
