Penderecki - Sextet (Rostropovich, Bashmet, Alexeev, ) | World Premiere Performance

Apologies for the sound interruptions, which were unfortunately a part of the original film. The world premiere of Krzysztof Penderecki’s “Sextet“ (a two-movement composition for clarinet, horn, violin, viola, cello, and piano) by Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki. was recorded live from the Vienna Musikverein in June 2000 in the presence of the composer. It was performed by an illustrious ensemble: Dmitri Alexeev (piano), Yuri Bashmet (viola), Paul Meyer (clarinet), Julian Rachlin (violin), Mstislav Rostropovich (cello) and Radovan Vlatkovic (horn). Tradition and invention are both to be found in this chamber piece with its rich variety of moods and expressive instrumentation. The musicians’ consummate interpretation received an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response and they immediately reprised the first movement of “Sextet“. 00:00 Entrance 00:12 1.
