New Alberta Premier Danielle Smith calls vaccine mandates “unacceptable“ discrimination | FULL
Danielle Smith was sworn in as Alberta’s new premier on Tuesday and in her first news conference, said that vaccine mandates are an “unacceptable“ form of discrimination.
“They have been the most discriminated against group that I’ve ever witnessed in my lifetime,“ Smith said. “I find that unacceptable - we are not going to create a segregated society,“ she added.
Smith also said she will be finding new health officials for the province. “I will get new advice on public health. I appreciate the work Dr. Deena Hinshaw has done, but I think that we are in a new phase,“ she said. Smith added that she aims to have new public health governance within 90 days.
Smith said she requested a meeting with outgoing premier Jason Kenney, but she did not hear back from him. “I think the premier needs a little time and I’m prepared to give him a little bit of time - it’s a big adjustment,“ she said.
