Prime Minister Boris Johnson last night said that the actions of the Hong Kong government had breached the Joint Declaration that governed Hong Kong’s handover and the drafting of its Basic Law. Do you have any comment on these comments from the prime minister?
Zhao Lijian: The Chinese side has elaborated on its position on the Sino-British Joint Declaration on multiple occasions. Hong Kong is China’s Hong Kong. No external force has the right to interfere in Hong Kong affairs. The UK has no sovereignty, no power of administration, and no right of supervision over Hong Kong after its return to the motherland. There is no so-called “promise” to keep.
