BATTLEAXE - Power From The Universe - [FULL ALBUM 1984]
🔘BATTLEAXE are one of those hidden gems of the NWOBHM that were on the verge of emerging. Like many of their contemporaries, they had an intense live activity and the support of local radio stations, which allowed them to record a single and appear on the “Roxcalibur“ compilation. This last movement already took place when they were in the anteroom of recording their debut LP, “Burn this Town“ (with one of those poor, but endearing covers).
After the album, and a change of company, came the almost obligatory appearance on DJ Tommy Vance’s “Friday Rock Show“, and BATTLEAXE’s career continued to rise playing with ANVIL, TWISTED SISTER, GIRLSCHOOL, SAXON and SPIDER at a festival in Leeds.
In fact they would be SAXON’s guests for their ’83 tour, which at that time was not just anything.
They formed under the name Warrior which then sometime in the early 1980s morphed into Battleaxe. The band consisted of Dave King (vocals), Brian Smith (bass), Steve Hardy (guitar), and Ian Thompson (drums). After playing around the area and perfecting their songs, they entered the studio to make the first album called “Burn This Town.“ The second album at hand: “Power From The Universe“ was released in 1984 with a new drummer called Ian McCormack followed by a massive UK tour with Saxon.
Battleaxe were one of the icons of the NWOBHM that, as happened with most of the bands of that movement, ended up disappearing.
In 2010 Battleaxe reunited and a few years later they were signed by the powerful German label: SPV/Steamhammer, which published a new album this year in 2014 titled “Heavy Metal Sanctuary“
Of course, a highly recommended release for anyone who wants to get to know the English scene of the early 80s in terms of bands that are somewhat less popular than the successful MAIDEN, SAXON OR DEF LEPPARD.
