The Empowering Outdoors | Trail Mixed & adidas TERREX

During the summer of 2023, Trail Mixed Collective partnered with adidas TERREX on a PCT hiking series for BIPOC women around a shared mission to make outdoor access - like hiking trails - more equitable, inclusive, and diverse. It isn’t this way today. There are many barriers to long-distance hiking - visible ones like brand imagery, structural racism, trail access and mentorship, and invisible barriers, like frequent verbal micro-aggressions on the trail, questioning experience and if you belong. A lot of the PCT is notoriously homogenous, where surveys show about 90% of thorough hikers are white, and these barriers - and more - persist. The series featured 5 hikes on the PCT across the West Coast, where local women of colour received adidas TERREX apparel and Free Hiker trail shoes.
