How to Stock a Biology/Genetics Lab

Starting a new lab is always a mix of exciting. On the one hand it means new equipment and materials, and setting up a lab is fun. But on the other hand the thought of paying for all those materials can seem daunting. Biology is a rather new field for citizen scientists to take up and so this video is meant to serve as a getting started guide so you know what’s worth buying off the bat and what sort of materials you’ll need to collect. While the list is a bit long, it doesn’t take that long to collect everything. It’s best to start small and slowly grow your collection as you do more projects. One thing I didn’t mention in the video. Kits. Most reagents come as systems in a kit. DNA extraction kits are one example and they come with special tubes and all of the different solutions needed to use the system. Because of the sheer variety of kits I omitted that from the video and will mention it whenever I use one. ________________________________________________________________
