Welcome to my last post of the year: a video of Opeth’s only performance of Harlequin Forest in 2023. Taken from the second of their two nights in Santiago, Chile, the band were on fire throughout the night. On this track in particular, Fredrik’s lead vocals through the start were outstanding; Mendez’s playing was heartfelt and flawless; Joakim’s keys set a delicate dynamic leading into the twin-guitar interlude; Mikael’s growls were on point and he was clearly into it; and Waltteri was a total joy to watch. He’s incredible! I’m still so excited that he’s joined. Lastly, a special shout out goes to the crowd - the crowd who sang along at full volume and ADDED A SPONTANEOUS VOCAL HARMONY (around 6:00).
