Throughout the Second World War, there were a huge number of SS war criminals, but one of the most notorious and evil was Rudolf Höss, the Commandant of Auschwitz. He admitted his crimes running the largest concentration camp, and he was responsible for the deaths of over 1 million people. He at the Nuremberg Trials would admit to his horrendous crimes, and he was the Commandant at Auschwitz for over 3 years, however he would return a number of times to carry our ruthless killing operations. After the war, Höss was sentenced to death and he was then executed inside of Auschwitz on a specially built gallows.
