Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon was part of a two Aircraft Combat Air Patrol at Srinagar in 1971.
He valiantly fought six enemy F 86 Sabres in an Aerial combat over the Srinagar airfield. Outnumbered but not outwitted, this son of soil laid down his life as per the true traditions of the Indian Armed Forces and is the only air warrior to have been awarded the Nation’s highest Gallantry Award the Param Vir Chakra.
