Apple plans to modify iPhones to constantly scan for contraband. I’m joined by Matthew Green, the renowned security expert and cryptography professor who first broke the story about Apple’s new plan to roll our photo scanning on iPhones. We discuss the descent of Apple from being a bastion of privacy advocacy to descending into a dangerous realm of surveillance overreach. As Ross Anderson, professor of security engineering, said, “It is an absolutely appalling idea, because it is going to lead to distributed bulk surveillance of our phones and laptops.”
