Visit Visit our website This 1963 Boy Scouts of America film looks at the different activities available at the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. The Scouts enjoy rough trail hiking, camping, shooting, fishing, archery, cattle work, forestry, riding and learn about rocks, gold and the early history of the area. The film constantly alludes to the rugged natural setting that can bring everyone back in contact with nature and a romanticized past. There is continuous footage of cowboys herding cattle and people riding horses through picturesque mountain scenery. The Philmont Scout Ranch is a ranch located in Colfax County, New Mexico, near the village of Cimarron; it covers 140,177 acres (56,728 ha) of wilderness in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains on the east side of the Cimarron Range of the Rocky Mountains.
