The Frances is based on a fly pattern called Black Eyed Prawn that was designed in the UK in the mig 1960’s by a man named Peter Deane. It almost became an instant classic and it’s named after Miss Frances Hydon, but she was Peters fly tying assistant. As we all know, the fly evolved from a shrimp pattern named Black Eyed Prawn.
