“Aria detta la Frescobala“ (lute)

Girolamo Frescobaldi “Aria detta la Frescobalda“ from “Toccate et canzoni, libro secondo“ (1637). The “Aria“ is first known set of variation on an original theme. There was a tradition to compose variation on well-known (anonym-folk) themes like “Folia“ or “Romanesca“ and Frescobaldi was the first who broke this rule and take his own theme.
