The Prix des Nations - as it was called at the time - was rightly celebrated as the world’s greatest show-jumping test for both man and horse. Over forty riders from fifteen nations competed on the thousand metre course with sixteen obstacles each with its own peculiar difficulties. After a fierce competition which included many refusals, falls but also fantastic performances, it was the Mexicans who dominated the events.
