A number of South American countries have registered diplomatic protests against Israel, in response to its relentless bombing in Gaza to fight Hamas. Bolivia’s leftwing government said it is cutting ties entirely with Israel. Israel slammed Bolivia’s decision to cut diplomatic ties and called it “a surrender to terrorism”. Soon after Bolivia’s announcement, Chilean and Colombian governments recalled their ambassadors to Israel for consultations. Other Latin American neighbours, such as Mexico and Brazil, have also recently called for a ceasefire.
