T H E P E O P L E ’ S M A R S H A L This is an orchestral arrangement/remix/cover of “Мы - армия народа“, or “We Are the Army of the People”, which is a Soviet patriotic march typically sung during military parades or other celebrations of the armed forces in the USSR. The song was written in 1945 to commemorate the Soviet victory in World War II (the Great Patriotic War). The song’s composer was G. Movsesyan and the lyricist was R. Rozhdestvensky. The song’s lyrics reflect well-known elements of Soviet ideals, including the concept of fighting for the people and nation at large. The song is a particularly powerful expression of patriotism, even with modern-day Russians, as it makes reference to past great Russian victories (the Battle of Borodino in particular) and it is routinely played at Victory Day parades in contemporary Russia.
