PHIL LEWIS of LA GUNS Talks “Black Diamonds” Album: ‘We Got Together & Sweated it Out to Record It’
The one, the only, the original L.A. Guns with Tracii Guns and Phil Lewis will be releasing their next studio album, “Black Diamonds”, via Frontier Music SRL on April 14, 2023.
The band continues to capitalize on their reunion, musical strength, and momentum from “The Missing Peace” [2017], “The Devil You Know” [2019], and “Checkered Past” [2021]. Tracii and Phil are joined by Johnny Martin [bass], Ace Von Johnson [guitar], and Shawn Duncan [drums], and together crafted songs that have revitalized and redefined L.A. Guns.
L.A. Guns is a band that truly embodies the spirit of rock & roll and “Black Diamonds”continues to see their rebellious spirit drive the band to double down on their combination of tightly wound riffs, rhythmic fury, naked emotions, and pushed-to-the-edge vocals, with songs like “Wrong About You,“ “You Betray,“ and “Shame.“ “Black Diamonds” sees the band taking a more bluesier approach musically with matching lyrics about relationship struggles. Together they are rewriting the limits of hard rock vernacular, and the result of this new album is proof of that.
No L.A. Guns album would be complete without a powerfully haunting ballad, and the boys do not disappoint with “Diamonds,“ which is sung with a true sense of passion and on equal par with “Ballad of Jayne.“ The undeniable chemistry between Tracii and Phil is evident again on this powerful bluesy-based release. These veteran rockers are not taking their foot off the gas and delivering another powerfully sonic album. Pre-orders for “Black Diamonds”can be found here:
Correspondent Robert Cavuoto spoke with Phil Lewis about the creation of “Black Diamonds”, the headspace they were in a while creating these bluesy songs with fitting lyrics, why he considers this a relationship break-up album, he and Tracii still have some healthy friction that fuels creativity, why he will never write an autobiography, and in the 80s what you saw was what you got with L.A. Guns’ look and lifestyle, they lived being a rock star 24/7.
