The Belted Plaid and Me, part 2

In another amateur installation, I demonstrate how I fold, pleat, and put on the belted plaid/great kilt. Please note a few mistakes that I made: while there is evidence for an inner drawstring on the plaid, there isn’t any evidence for belt loops. Further, I mistakenly referred to the selvedge of the kilt as the “hem“ at one point -- my bad. On a historical note, records from the British military indicate that soldiers in some early Highland Regiments were issued 12 yards of single-width cloth that was joined to make a 6 yard plaid. There is evidence of less material as well but not more. I highly recommend Peter MacDonald’s research: I appreciate Alan Torrance’s videos, and he’s in a few here: 1. 2. 3. 4. htt
