полосатая рыбная сова/The Elusive and Rare Fishing Owl | Birds of the Bush

EcoTraining brings you another episode in our Birds of the Bush series. In this month’s episode, we join EcoTraining Freelance Instructor JP Le Roux who adores birding. We received a request from Abel Hoijtink to feature the Pels Fishing Owl. Finding a Pel’s Fishing Owl is a rare sighting and we felt lucky to have come across this gorgeous-looking fellow. As their name implies they specialize in catching fish, and they do so by hearing. They focus on catching surface-breathing fish and also feed on frogs, mussels, insects, and crabs. Interestingly enough the fishing owl will also prey on small juvenile crocodiles. Please leave us a comment below and tell us which beautiful bird of prey you wish to learn more about, we’d love to hear from you! EcoTraining is NOW also offering an Online Birding Enthusiast Course. Read more about this course here: OR Shop online:
