LIVE: Berlin to mark 80th anniversary of Nazi Germany attack on the Soviet Union

Ruptly is live with a ceremony marking the day when Nazi Germany launched an attack on the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941. Known as the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow, it is observed in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine and honours the anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War. An event marking the 80th anniversary of the Nazi attack on the Soviet Union, organised by the ’Russisches Haus der Wissenschaft und Kultur’ (literally Russian House of Science and Culture) in Berlin, will see the string orchestra of 12 perform the work of Samuel Berber ’Adagio for strings, op. 11’ for 9 minutes. The orchestra will start playing without an announcement at 04:00 local time (02:00 GMT), at the same time when the Soviet Union was attacked without a prior declaration of war on June 22, 1941.
