Stream and download link: Have you ever heard of the Milgram Experiment? This song came to me when I learned about the infamous psych experiment of the 1960’s. It’s quite a strange and sad experiment, in which subjects were ordered to give ever-increasing electric shocks to a “learner” who had to repeat word pairs (“Blue/Girl Nice/Day Slow/Dance Sweet/Taste Soft/Hair Sharp/Needle Blunt/Arrow True/Story). In the experiment, the person memorizing the words was just an actor and of course they made mistakes, so the volunteer had to decide, do I obey orders and give a lethal electric shock to this person who is crying out in the next room, or do I stop the process and say no? Subjects were shaken to find that most people would obey the authority figure and give what they thought were lethal shocks to the learner, even against their own conscience.
