Satie - Gymnopedie Nos. 1 & 3 for Orchestra (transcribed by Debussy)

Satie’s Trois Gymnopedie, originally written for solo piano, are performed here as transcribed for orchestra by the great Achille-Claude Debussy, minus the 2nd. It is believed that Debussy did not transcribe the 2nd Gymnopedie as he believed that the piece did not lend itself to arrangement for Orchestra; some believe that Debussy didn’t transcribe the 2nd Gymnopedie because Satie did not allow Debussy to have access to the piece. The tone poem, as written by Satie, was based upon a poem by J.P. Contamine
