The U.S. has never apologized for dropping two atomic bombs on Japan in 1945 that instantly killed almost 250,000 people. Survivors of the bombings have suffered radiation-caused health consequences. Was the bombing a war crime, or was it necessary to end the war? That debate hasn’t been settled yet.
We take a look at how has the U.S. come to terms with nuclear weapons 75 years after dropping the first atomic bomb. We speak to atomic bomb survivor Wataru Namba and Asian studies professor Norma Field on the history and the legacy of Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings.
