It may seem like a silly question, but it is the sort of question that get asked a lot. There is a prevailing view that some weapons are simply easier to use than others. But does that apply to two of the most iconic sword types from history, the katana and the longsword? Fundamentally they are both medium-sized two-handed swords, which can also be used one-handed and which can cut and thrust with ease. But for a total novice, someone with no experience of swordsmanship, is one easier to use than the other?
