Footage shows an Iranian F-5 aircraft launching a reported TDU-11 thermal target rocket and shortly after, the accompanying MiG-29 engages with a heat-seeking missile, possibly an R-73 ( AA-11 Archer) or an AIM-9 Sidewinder. The filmed operation was a part of an air-to-air training exercise.
During the 1960s and 1970’s, the US supplied Iran with hundreds of varying F-5 Freedom Fighter and Tiger II aircraft models. Following the Islamic Revolution, Iran developed its own industry to continue making replacement parts of its existing fleet of F-5 aircraft, as well as producing its own clone versions of the F-5 as well.
