“Passacaglia“ – Stradivari meets Roncalli

Ludovico Roncalli – Passacaglia (1692) Lorenzo Micheli, baroque guitar In 1692, Count Ludovico Roncalli from Bergamo published his “Capricci armonici”, the most extraordinary Italian 17th century book of guitar music. Four years earlier, in 1688, Antonio Stradivari from Cremona had built his earliest extant guitar, now owned by the Ashmolean Museum at Oxford University. Stradivari and Roncalli spent their almost entire life just 70 kilometers apart. It is not unlikely that they met. Audio and Video Recording by Drew Henderson Lorenzo Micheli plays a guitar by Stephen Murphy after Stradivari’s “Oxford” guitar.
