Elvis Presley - Snowbird - 29 January 1971, Dinner Show - First Time Performed Live

Another nice touch of crowd pleasing from Elvis. By this stage the Vegas boredom had already started to set in. The massive success of TTWII followed by his first two tours to massive sell out crowds had probably made the Vegas engagements seem like just another job. For example, his last show of 1970 in Salt Lake City attracted a crowd of 13,000 wheras this show, as every show of this engagement despite all being sold out had an audience of just 2200!! The Dinner Shows at the International Hotel were mostly filled with high roller gamblers who just wanted some entertainment in between trying for ’hard eights’! It didn’t help that probably for that reason that Elvis was asked to keep his Dinner Shows to about 50 minutes by the hotel hierarchy so as to get the punters and their money back into the hotel’s casino’s. This imposed restriction combined with the clatter of crockery and cutlery during performances makes it little wonder he preferred the midnight shows and disliked the dinner shows so much!! This track was officially released on Sony’s Elvis collector’s label FTD in 2004 on the album The Impossible Dream.
