This Zippo Lighter restoration is probably the world’s smallest ever seen. The lighter was sent to me for repair, and I will make it very beautiful again with a 24-carat gold layer and some awesome custom engravings. Enjoy the video!
I got this very small and dirty Zippo Lighter sent to me from one of my subscribers. I think its very cute and I’m looking forward to seeing if the lighter actually works, or if it’s just a useless toy/advertising item.
THE RESTORATION PROCESS
I started disassembling the little lighter. It was quite hard because everything was so small and fragile, but I manage to separate the lighters outer and inner case. Then I removed the flint wheel and the flint spring.
I cleaned the outer case in my sandblaster using very fine glass beads, together with low air pressure. I also gave the outer case a quick grinding with 1000 grit sandpaper to be able to make it ultra mirror shiny when polishing it. Of course I used a tiny polishing machine to match the tiny Lighter size.
The inner case was cleaned by hand using a toothbrush, hot water, and soap. I used my mini drill machine to polish this into a mirror shiny condition too.
I plated a beautiful 24 carat layer of gold on the Zippo base lid and the bottom case. That turned out really awesome! And after that I custom engraved a cute Hippo to the bottom case and the text “Hippo” at the lid.
When I was done with the engraving, I assembled the whole lighter again and added a new wick, new cotton balls, flint and added Premium Zippo Lighter Fluid.
It brought me such a joy for me to do this restoration video. I love repairing these odd items and I think that this turned out really awesome.
