Newborns and one month olds turn toward a sound source 80% of the time. At two months this ability turning towards sound stimuli improves again at 3 to 4 months. At six months of age the localization of sound such as a bell that is rung out of sight, becomes possible. Little is known about the neuronal basis of acoustically elicited orienting responses. Baby hearing tests are conducted by trained audiologists.
