Taiwan funds horror films and TV as new protection strategy
Zombies, ghouls and all things horror are now part of Taiwan’s novel plan to protect itself.
The territory is investing heavily in local horror film productions, as well as in high-end TV dramas, as part of its silver screen protection strategy.
Taiwan is among the most prolific and lauded makers of all types of horror films.
Dozens of Taiwanese films have recently been purchased by major international streaming platforms, with 2022 found footage flick ’Incantation’ being one of the most popular films on Netflix in Asia.
The government has increased funding for Taiwanese TV and filmmakers to get more foreigners interested in Taiwanese culture, so they are more likely to support Taiwan with its real-world struggles, such as military threats from China.
