Toccata & Fugue in D Minor

E. Power Biggs referenced the tremendous sound and reverberation of the St. Michael’s Church as “the Splendor of Zwolle“. The dramatic pauses in both the toccata and the fugue highlight the magnificent and perfectly shaped 6 second reverberation. The large 63 stop Schnitger (extensively and sensitively restored by Dirk Flentrop in 1955) is a superb vehicle for the works of Bach.
