Inspired by the success of the ’Tomb Raider’ game, ’Relic Hunter’ (1999) hit the airwaves two years before the first ’Tomb Raider’ movie appeared. Professor Sydney Fox (Tia Carrere) seems to spend more time on globe-trotting adventures than in the classroom, aided by her somewhat doofus assistant Nigel. The budgets were not exactly luxurious and the special effects were variable (though actually, Carrere was the show’s most special effect). ’Relic Hunter’ was largely shot in Canada; the show filmed a handful of episodes on the continent, including a half-dozen in France.
