Résonances

During the pandemic closure (2020-2021), pianist Vittoria Quartararo and artist Viktoriia Sviatiuk developed an animated video about the piano piece Résonances (1964) by Henri Dutilleux. By unfolding the central idea of the Dutilleux piece concerning the phenomenon of resonance, first studied by Galileo Galilei through his experiments with the pendulum, they compared the audiovisual levels of this concept. The studies of Wassily Kandinsky on the vibration of forms and colours served as a primary reference. His painting Balancement (Swinging, 1925) especially offered a valuable comparison with the movement of sound waves. The piece Résonances is contained in the CD production (2021, PIANO CLASSICS/Brilliant Classics) recorded by Vittoria Quartararo, which is dedicated to the complete piano production of Henri Dutilleux.
