Elon Musk Reacts To The Successful Launch Of The Vulcan Rocket! A towering new rocket has blasted off, carrying what has the potential to be the first commercial lander to touch down on the moon. In a tweet that was discovered by Eric Berger in 2018, Musk highlighted the pricing of the United Launch Alliance (ULA) rocket as well as the eventual development of its competitor’s Vulcan rocket. Musk has stated, “If that rocket is able to successfully launch a national security spacecraft before the year 2023, I will seriously eat my hat with a side of mustard.“ As soon as United Launch Alliance (ULA) was established in 2006 as a result of the merger of the launch teams of Boeing and Lockheed Martin, discussions regarding a new rocket began. Vulcan, on the other hand, was not formally revealed until 2014, which was in response to political criticism regarding the Atlas V’s reliance on the RD-180 engine, which was manufactured in Russia. In the very first updates, the introduction of Vulcan was scheduled for 2019, however it was subsequently pushed back to 2020. One of the first things that was identified as an issue was the new engine that was being built by Blue Origin under the moniker BE-4. This engine was being produced in the United States. In their report from 2021, the GAO revealed that it was “experiencing technical challenges related to the igniter and booster capabilities required.“ Both the industry as a whole and ULA’s first Vulcan customer experienced further delays as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic that occurred in 2020 and 2021. Because of the pandemic and other technical challenges, the launch of the Peregrine lander by Astrobotic would be delayed by several years. In addition to the development of the Centaur V, Vulcan was initially intended to make use of an Atlas V variant of the Centaur III. After the redesign of the Centaur III in 2023, the launch date of January 8, 2024 was set. Musk’s prediction was amazing but we’re not sure what knowledge Musk had at the time or if it was just a good guess. At 2:18 a.m. Eastern Time on Monday, the Vulcan Centaur rocket, which was developed by United Launch Alliance, a joint venture partnership between Boeing and Lockheed Martin, roared to life at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. This rocket was a model that had never flown before.
