Escape Tower (1962)

Gosport, Hampshire. A submarine moves through Gosport Naval Dockyard. Panning shot to the only Escape Tower in Europe - a means of training submariners to escape from stricken craft. Man is helped into a special immersion suit by an instructor. He puts on some goggles and nose clip then climbs into a waterproof capsule. He turns a wheel to flood the capsule. Instructors go down to the trainees level in a diving bell. Weird underwater shot of the tank. Trainee is pulled out of the capsule and speeds up to the top. He has to breath out as he rises to the surface. Trainee floats on top of the tank in his inflated orange immersion suit. Instructors can stay underwater for a long time thanks to the diving bell. One of the instructors rises to the top of the water by breathing out. Great sound effects (plinky plonky sounds). Cuts exist - see separate record. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
