1st RECORDING OF: One Night - Smiley Lewis (1956)

Starting with the opening line “One night of sin is what I’m now paying for,” this original lyric received a major overhaul to get approved for commercial release by Elvis in autumn 1958 when it reached top-5 on Billboard. Elvis had recorded his ‘cleaned-up’ track more than a year-and-a-half earlier in early ’57 along with a version using the original lyrics (which remained unissued until 1983).
