The Shoemaker, Stage 2, Watercolor Demonstration by Ev Hales

A pattern of rich, calligraphic, dark brush marks is painting on top of the fabulous under-wash demonstrated in Stage 1 (video Demonstration 17) Watercolorists are often frightened of intense darks and are happy to leave them to last. This technique breaks those inhibitions because the darks are painted early in the process. See for yourself how dynamic and powerful they can be as a part of your image. This painting is not completed but it is well on the way after just 2 stages.
