Sweden has some amazing mountains to hike. Kebnekaise is the tallest one at 2106 m, but there’s one mountain that beats it in pure beauty: Helags.
Helags is located close to the border of Norway, and National Geographic rated Helags as number three in their list of the best summit hikes in the world. The hike takes you around Sweden’s biggest glacier south of the Arctic Circle, and gives a magnificent view of the surrounding valleys and mountains. Helags peak itself is 1797 m tall, and the highest peak in Sweden south of the Arctic Circle.
Getting to Helags starts at a parking spot called Kläppen, followed by a 12 km hike before you’re at the foot of the mountain. Come along as I show you the best parts of the trek, tell you about the history of the location, and show you just why Helags deserves to be ranked among the best summit hikes in the world.
