26 yr old Christian Priest Visits the Front with a Few Thoughtful Words about Love and Service

Father George is a 26 year old, recently ordained priest, and serves in a church on the outskirts of Moscow. One day, he came up to Andrei Afanasiev, a famous Russian journalist, and said, “Take me with you on your next trip!“ He promised to bring to the soldiers an icon with a part of the relics of St. George the Great-Martyr and Trophy-Bearer. Andrei took him and never once regretted it. Listen to some of what Fr. George said to the fighters at the front near Verkhnetoretskoe: “...Because that military duty, the tasks you are carrying out, those are true expressions of love. Yes, love which is expressed in serving. That is, your readiness to totally give yourself for another person. As it is said in The New Testament: ’Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.’ To “lay down your life” does not necessarily mean exactly to die. To lay down your life means to totally give yourself to serving. That means to do everything for another person.“ Source:
