Tourbillon & Carrousel – Chronometry saga n°3

They are spectacular, and for this reason they embody the craftsmanship of haute horlogerie. But the tourbillon and the carrousel were invented for other reasons. Their first role is to average out the impact of gravity on the movement’s rate. Invented by Abraham-Louis Breguet at the end of the 17th century, the tourbillon makes the whole escapement revolve around its own axis. Created by Bahne Bonniksen in 1892, the carrousel follows the same principle but in a more secured way.
