Russian Strikes Children’s Hospital in Kyiv - Okhmatdyt Hospital

On the morning of July 8, 2024, Russia launched a devastating missile attack on Kyiv and several other cities across Ukraine, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 33 civilian lives and injuring 136 others. Explosions echoed throughout Kyiv, with missile debris causing damage across several districts and fires breaking out in the Desnianskyi and Dniprovskyi areas. Tragically, the Okhmatdyt hospital, Ukraine’s largest children’s medical center, was hit, along with a residential building in the Schevchenkyvskyi district. The attack also targeted three transformer substations operated by DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy company, causing extensive damage. Ukrainian defenses managed to shoot down several missiles, including one Kinzhal ballistic missile, three Iskander-M ballistic missiles, 11 Kh-101 cruise missiles, 12 Kalibr cruise missiles, and three Kh-59/69 guided aerial missiles. Despite these efforts, the attack resulted in significant casualties and damage.
