What is Rigging?

AnimSchool Tips: What is Rigging? Most people are familiar with two vital stages in the animation pipeline. The first is modeling the character and the second is animating the character, but there is a missing step between these two jobs, rigging. Once a character is modeled but before it is animated it needs to be rigged. A rigger takes the character model and adds the “bones” allowing the model to respond fluidly and seamlessly to the whims of the animator. Without riggers 3D animation as we know it would not exist. Every joint, every blink, and every step is able to be animated because of an animation rig.
