Garbage from Germany in April 1996 performing “My Lover’s Box“ on the “Rockpalast“ TV show, which has featured almost ever major rock musical act in the world since 1974. Shirley Manson - lead vocal, guitar Steve Marker - guitar Duke Erikson - guitar Butch Vig - drums Daniel Shulman - bass Garbage was formed in Madison, Wisconsin in 1994 by producers and longtime friends Marker, Erikson and Vig. All three had enjoyed success as producers of albums during the new “grunge“ movement, especially Vig who had helmed Nirvana’s “Nevermind“ and the Smashing Pumpkins “Siamese Dream“. They recruited Edinburgh, Scotland native Manson, of the band Angelfish and previously Goodbye Mr Mackenzie, to be the lead singer. The band is best known for the hits “Stupid Girl“, “#1 Crush“, and “I’m Only Happy When It Rains“.
