On September 19, 2022, a genetics company in Beijing marked 100 days since it successfully cloned an Arctic wolf, in what it claimed was a world first. Scientists used a beagle dog as the gestational carrier by inserting a 16-year-old Arctic wolf’s cells into one of the female dog’s eggs. The original 16-year-old wolf died of natural causes in August 2021.
