Materials Needed: Cotton cloth, wooden frame, saresh ( animal skin) refined white clay, smooth stone, steel bucket, water. Thread small, yarn, piece of clothes for rubbing Smooth wooden board, big needle, container to water and a spatula. Thangka Painting has been an age old tradition for the Buddhist. This art has been preserved and passed down through generations. The process of preparing the canvas for the painting requires hard-work and a lot of patience. The steps are as follow: - Firstly, we need to select a good cotton fabric. Then we should measure and cut it into desire shape and size. - Next, we stitch it onto a wooden/ iron frame evenly as shown in the video. - To make the fabric sturdy for painting, we apply layers of primer. The primer is made of saresh ( animal skin mixed with refined white clay). - The canvas is sanded and smoothened to remove any irregularities using as smooth stone and a piece of cloth. Finally, the canvas is left to dry. After it is dried up we need to check the canvas for bumps and holes.
