Gas Driven Car (1940)

Unused / unissued material - location unclear or unknown. Various shots of the gas driven car having a test drive. Car is seen driving up the hill and circling round racetrack. A huge gas filled tank is placed on roof of the car. C/U of car’s engine. Driver’s hand showing gas valves. Cut back to car driving round racetrack. Car standing, driver feeling gas tank with his hand, then moves towards back of the car for further checks. He then gets in, another person is already in the car, and drives off. (Neg.) Amendment October 2011: A visitor to the site has provided additional information on this clip. The location is the Brooklands race track and it would have been filmed between Sept 1939 and the day Brooklands was bombed on 4/9/40. The gas-powered car might be a Morris and is seen driving up Test Hill, around Members’ Banking, along the Railway Straight, on the Finishing Straight and parked at several places in the Paddock.
