The Honeycombs performing “Have I the Right?“, released originally in 1964.
It reached #1 in the UK Singles Chart, #1 in Canada Top Singles, #1 in New Zealand, #1 in Australian Charts, #1 in Sweden and #5 in US Billboard Hot 100.
“Have I the Right?“ is a classic British Invasion song with a distinctive drumming sound, provided by Honey Lantree, the band’s drummer. The song is known for its memorable chorus and catchy melody.
The Honeycombs were a London band with a female drummer, and they were produced by Joe Meek, who also produced hits for The Tornadoes and many other artists. The songwriters behind “Have I the Right?“ were Ken Howard and Alan Blaikley, who also wrote songs for other popular artists such as Lulu, Elvis Presley, Petula Clark, and Engelbert Humperdinck.
The Honeycombs were a pioneering group in many ways, as they were the first group to have a female drummer, the first to have two number one hits in Japan, and the first to perform in Thailand. “Have I the Right?“ remains their best-known song, and it has become a classic of the Merseybeat and British Invasion era.
