A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck south of Istanbul, shaking parts of Turkey’s largest city, causing damage to roads and some buildings.
The epicenter of the earthquake was in Gemlik Bay in the Sea of Marmara, which is located about 60 kilometers south of Istanbul.
People felt walls shaking in both the Asian and European parts of Istanbul, and footage showed people heading out into the streets for safety.
Turkey’s most populous city is located near the North Anatolian Rift, one of the most active in the world.
