A small breakdown of “Game of Thrones“ inspired “Dune“ opening.
This project was started soon after the release of “Dune: Part One“, but often put on hold in favor of other projects & work. Overall it took about 3 months to complete. Software used: Cinema 4D for modeling, animating and texturing, Redshift for rendering, Adobe After Effects for post-processing and Adobe Premiere Pro for editing.
All the shots have quite similar structure of layers that form the final image. So in the first half of this making-of there is a layer-by-layer breakdown of one of the most representative shots. Granted, not every step has adjustments that are easy to see, even in 4K. But all of them have a purpose and help achieve the final look.
Since the premiere of “Game of Thrones“ I was quite stunned by its amazing opening sequence created by Elastic design studio. It was incredibly inspiring and I’ve always wanted to try and make something with a similar visual style. Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune“ became just the perfect piece to realize that kind of project.
